Dear Brethren
How exciting it is to go back to school after such a long and joyful summer holidays. Truly speaking, within a fortnight of the commencement of the Summer break, we all got bored with no new students and no new challenges, no new work, no new boss nothing new except a long and dull daily routine starting with a morning jog and ending with a late night serial.
When we were working on a full school day, we wanted a break and when the holidays came we started longing for the school. How silly it seems, but the fact remains, as a human being, we are never satisfied with what we get. There's an old adage, "You get what you think about.”
You wanted a break, you got it; you wanted to work and holidays ended. This is, in fact true with the life. If you think about failing, you fail. If you think about struggling, you struggle. If you think about success, you succeed.
This is similar to the situation when we want something for others, especially when it is for their “Good”. Listen, we're human. By all means, what we want in the end is the Good of our students, our pupils. And if it is true “You get what you think about” and you believe it to be true, then it is time to understand the power of your words that affect your students and their ability to succeed. Listen to the words you use. How do you react when they make a mistake? Are you kind and encouraging? Or, are you negative and, some times, mean?
Well, it's How do you react when they don't do well on a test? If you're a real negative person, you'll get negative results. Your student will pick up your thoughts and even though they appear to ignore them, your attitude moves right in to their minds and stay there to wreak hell later on. Just like if they have trouble remembering, it will only get worse if you repeat, "You're not trying," "You have a bad memory...it's genetic."
The good news is you can turn that around. Be encouraging and positive. You will see a difference as soon as it becomes a habit and not a "one shot" deal. If you want your student to be happier and successful, it needs to start with you.
Start thinking positive and the positive will come to you.
Amen
